Here is a short list of info about being a Independent. If you have any more question's outside of what is listed here ask them in your post.
Q.What's a Independent?
A. A Independent is someone who doesn't belong to any of the "big three Orders". Or in other words Independents don't have connections to any Order they just exist on their own. You have complete freedom, but you lack the advantages the Orders give to their members.
Q. I want to have Force Powers. Can I still be a Independent?
A. Generally no you can't. Although all characters have a potential to use the Force on this rpg (outside those who can't use it in the Cannon) that doesn't mean you will get Force Powers. As a Independent you don't get the basic opportunity to learn Force Powers like a member of the big three do. You maybe able to get the chance to train in Force Powers by being taught by a fellow Independent who is perhaps a ex Jedi. That being said though you can never learn more then what he teaches you and you still aren't able to learn anything more then the ex-Jedi/Sith/Grey Jedi knows upon his training of you.
Q. Can I switch sides in the middle of a War if I want?
A. Yes, you can you are free to do whatever you want, but be wherry that doesn't mean you won't pay for your betrayal. You may get away with it you may not it depends on the variables.
Q. So I can just abandon my post and fly away during a war if I wished?
A. Yes. If you where hired by say The Republic Remnants who where fighting a war against the Imperial Remnants you could leave the field of battle if it changed for the worst for the Republic and nothing would happen to you. You are a Independent not a member of a Order. Now if the Sith was fighting with the Republic against the Grey Jedi and the Imperial Remnants you would have to stay and fight no matter how badly the Republic was losing, until The Dark Lord gives the order for retreat.
Q. I want my character to be Mandalore and I want to be put in charge of the Mandalorians!
A. To bad. You can't claim you are the head of any of the NPC factions. Nor can you create your own made up faction claiming you have a huge army of followers behind you.
Q. So I can't be a Mandalorian?
A. You can be a Mandlorian or anything else that you wish. You can say your character was born a Prince back in the Old Republic area who was frozen in ice and only recently thawed. It doesn't matter you can use your imagination to the fullest. You can't claim your the head of people. If you want to lead a large faction make your way up one of the big three. Our the other groups once they become available.
Q. I want my character to be a solider who fights only for the Republic. Can I do that even though the Republic isn't one of the big three?
A. Yes absolutely! That was one of the reasons the Independents where created.
Q. So I can't have NPC's?
A. You can have NPC's yes. You can have whole groups of NPC's in your personal roleplays, but you can't have them in storyline based roleplays unless given permission by the Staff (it would be put up to a vote more likely then not by the staff).
For example your a Mandalorian named Kyle and you and your five friends in your personal roleplays go about the galaxy getting into all kinds of shenanigans. From knock over mail boxes to killing little old ladies. That's fine as long as it remains in your personal roleplays only. If someone chooses to enter one of your personal roleplays and they accept the premise of your five friends being there you can continue to use them even then.
You can't use your five friends during story line roleplays nor duels without permission from the Staff, and the person your dueling respectively. You can't be fighting someone in the Dueling area then claim that your five friends are showing up to save you and they all attack your opponent at once. That isn't going to fly.
Q. Is it ok to make a NPC Force Users? I have this idea the my character is going to meet up with this ex Jedi Grand Master named Hulk Hogan who is going to train me in the ways of the Force. Under his training I will be able to become the strongest Force User on the site!
A. No. You can't create NPC's who are all powerful beings in order to gain powers that's not going to fly. All the old Jedi/Sith/Grey Jedi are either dead or MIA after the Force Wars. Only a handful survived and most of them founded the new Orders. For those who didn't they are currently body guards for the NPC factions among other things.
Q. Can I train under one of these NPC body guard Force users?
A. 99.999999 percent of the time no. Their maybe one odd time where we use it as a reward, but don't count on it. The great majority of Independent's will not have Force Powers.
Q. My friend who was once a Jedi left the order in order to train me in the Force. After my training was done he applied to be reentered into the Jedi, but they refused to take him back. Then neither the Sith, nor the Grey Jedi accepted my friend so now he is forced to stay a Independent. Can he continue to gain Force Power and train me since he was once a Jedi?
A. No. No one once they leave a Order will be gaining new Force Powers once they leave the Orders they where once members of. This rule maybe able to be over ridden by the Staff if we decide a member has done things for the site that causes him to be worthy of further Force Powers and increased skills, but that would be very rare. Most people who leave the big three Orders won't be returning to the big three without permission.
Q.Five other members and me want to make our own faction so we can fight the Sith. Is this allowed?
A. No not at this point. Currently Independents can join forces with as many people as they want, but they can not create their own Factions just yet. You can create a gang though, but if you do your powers will be that of a street gang. Your gang can then fight the Sith, or Jedi or anyone else.
Q. I use to belong to the site before it shoot down. Can I rejoin as my old character, but make him a Independent?
A. Maybe, maybe not. It depends on what the Staff decides. If you where a former Jedi it maybe easier just to go back to the Jedi Order. If you where a Sith it maybe easier just to go back to the Sith Order. In the end its hard to say. The easiest think maybe to build a whole new character into a Independent. If you'd still want to be your old character go ahead and post and we will see what happens.
Q. I don't think its fair that Independents get so screwed when it comes to having little chance of having powerful Force Powers!
A. Your opinion is noted and as quickly forgotten. The point of being Independent is you have complete control over your character you don't take orders from anyone, and you can pick different sides in every battle. But you don't get the advantages that the Orders have. Which includes free and easy training in the Force.
Q. What about using a lightsaber?
A. The lightsaber is the same as Force Powers. If you want to use one find a Independent who has one and ask him to train you then its up to them. You will have to learn how to build one, use one, the forums everything. If you kill a Jedi/Sith/Grey and get their lightsaber you still are unable to use it without proper training.
Q. I made my Independent a Former Jedi Master do I get Force Powers?
A. No. Under the current storyline that is being created there are no roaming ex Force Using Masters outside of the Orders and in high government officials. You can make your Independent a former Jedi Master, but he will have to be disconnected from the Force.
More Q and A will come up on this subject as the questions arise.
